Earlier in the evening, the man was stopped by officers on Rozengracht in the center because of ‘antisocial driving’, according to a police spokesperson. The suspect didn’t care and ran away.
A ‘quite a chase’ followed, after which the driver crashed into another car on the Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg in Noord. He then jumped out of the car and climbed onto the roof of the station.
The occupants of the car the suspect crashed into were uninjured. An ambulance was called as a precaution. It is not yet clear whether the suspect has suffered any injuries.
The police have cordoned off the area and are talking to the man. In the meantime, metro traffic to and from North station has been temporarily halted. The Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg in the direction of the city is also closed.
