Lana Del Rey defends herself against the rich lie – she was previously called “white trash”.

Lana Del Rey clarifies: “There are famous people who grew up rich – I’m not one of them.”

Lana Del Rey has been said several times in the past that she comes from a wealthy family and grew up rich. Now the singer-songwriter spoke out about the claims and published a five-minute statement video on her Instagram page. She quickly deleted it, but it has now reappeared on Platform X (formerly Twitter).

By Video the singer explains that she hasn’t grown as tall as many people now claim. In the clip, she talks about how she grew up in a rural region in America (Lake Placid) and was often excluded from other children at school because of her family’s poor financial circumstances. Even though she later switched to a private school, this was only possible with further financial support, which she does not go into in detail in the video.

Lana Del Rey also says that her classmates at school called her “White Trash from Lake Placid” because she was not wealthy and the place where she lived was known for its poor conditions. In addition, her parents regularly argued about money – her father only received a better salary late after he was able to change his job.

In addition to talking about her childhood, the musician also talks about the beginnings of her career in the clip – a point in time when she says she first started making money. Until then, she lived in a trailer park. And even when she appeared on “Saturday Night Live” in 2012, she was still living in a hostel.

“We had absolutely no money. This is a little story that the media liked to attribute to me. I grew up in a small house in a mountain town and we struggled just as much as anyone else in town. […] There is no other truth than this. There are famous people who grew up rich – I’m not one of them,” Lana Del Rey concludes.
