LAGO builds large gasless swimming pool complex in Bredene

The roof of the swimming pool will have 761 solar panels, representing an area of 1,200 m2. The solar energy production in combination with geothermal energy means that the swimming pool in Bredene can run completely electrically.

“LAGO Bredene Grasduinen will be the swimming pool of the future”, says Diether Thielemans, CEO of LAGO. “The complex shows that we can run swimming pools completely electrically and therefore without CO2 emissions. In the future, we will always build swimming pools that are as green as possible.” The sports and recreation complex will be completed in the second half of 2024.

In the Grasduinen complex you will find a 25-metre sports pool, an interactive children’s pool, an instruction pool with a movable floor and a wild water course. There will also be a 520 square meter gym.

Added value for Bredene

Grasduinen will replace the current Ter Polder municipal swimming pool. “We foresee an annual contribution of 1,350,000 euros for the new swimming pool over the next 30 years. The current swimming pool now costs us more than 600,000 euros annually. Due to environmental legislation, that swimming pool is obliged to close its doors in 2024. In order to have a modern and multifunctional swimming pool with associated facilities and nice extras, we will pay 750,000 euros more every year. The new swimming pool should provide added value in Bredene for residents, second home residents and tourists alike,” says Mayor Steve Vandenberghe.
