Lady Gaga to Star in ‘Joker’ Sequel

After much speculation, it is now clear. Lady Gaga continues her Hollywood career with a role in Joker: Folie à Deux. She will star in the sequel alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

Lady Gaga announced her involvement on Twitter and Instagram. The singer posted an animated video teaser for Joker: Folie à Deux. You can see silhouettes of Phoenix and Gaga dancing together. So it’s safe to assume that Gaga will take on the role of Harley Quinn.

It was only recently announced that the sequel will hit the big screen on October 4, 2024. As in the first part, director Todd Phillips co-wrote the script with screenwriter Scott Silver. Leading actor Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for best actor in 2020 for his role as Joker.

Loved and hated

In Germany, “Joker” attracted just over 4 million visitors to the cinema. He reached number 6 in the annual charts behind the “Avengers” and “Star Wars”. The film divided opinions. For some critics, the film was a disappointment – too violent, too pseudo-intellectual and over-acted. For others, “Joker” was the highlight of the cinema year.

For Gaga, the role is far from her first exposure to Hollywood. In 2018, she made her film debut in A Star Is Born, starring Bradley Cooper. The 36-year-old was nominated for her performance at the Oscars, but ultimately “only” won the award for Best Soundtrack. In 2021, the singer starred alongside Al Pacino, Adam Driver and Jared Leto in House Of Gucci.
