FC Barcelona continued their winning streak at the start of the new year with a flattering derby victory on Saturday evening. Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski scored late to win.
In the city duel against in-form rivals Espanyol Barcelona, coach Hansi Flick’s team won 2-0 (0-0) thanks to his jokers. The Catalans extended their lead at the top of the Spanish La Liga table to seven points, at least for the time being, with their ninth win in a row.

Substitutes Dani Olmo (87th) and Robert Lewandowski (90th) saved Barcelona with a late double strike. Before that, Flick’s team had to thank goalkeeper Joan García: the goalkeeper prevented them from falling behind several times with strong saves.
That’s probably why Flick hugged García tightly after the final whistle. Flick has been with Barcelona without losing a point in the league since the Clásico defeat against Real Madrid (1-2) at the end of October. The Madrilenians can keep up with a win against Betis Sevilla on Sunday (4:15 p.m.).
