Kylian Mbappé is one of Real Madrid’s most important players. Now the Royals could even miss him in the Champions League round of 16.
Real Madrid will have to do without Kylian Mbappé for the time being. The 2018 world champion was in his native France on Monday to have his knee examined again.
An operation is currently not planned. The injury, which the Madrilenians described as a “knee sprain”, should be treated conservatively. During the investigations in Paris, Mbappé was accompanied by club employees.
The 27-year-old has been suffering from an injury to the lateral ligament in his left knee since the end of 2025. Since then he has had to take breaks again and again. Among other things, he missed the Champions League playoff second leg against Benfica Lisbon. The reason given was persistent pain, according to those around him.
Coach Álvaro Arbeloa told Movistar last week: “There was broad agreement between everyone involved and we think the best thing is for him to take a break, recover and come back at 100 percent.” He also explained: “It won’t just be a matter of days, it will take a little longer, but I can’t say exactly how long. Hopefully not too long.”
