Kylian Mbappé suffered an injury against Betis Sevilla. Now it is clear: the superstar is out for the time being.
Real Madrid will have to do without Kylian Mbappé for the time being. The French striker suffered an injury to the hamstring of his left leg in the 1-1 draw against Real Betis. It is still unclear whether he will be fit in time for the “Clásico” against FC Barcelona on May 10th.
Mbappé was substituted with pain in the 82nd minute in Sevilla on Friday evening. The club did not give an exact downtime. The Madrid trade newspapers “AS” and “Marca” report that, with a bit of luck, the 27-year-old could play again against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou. However, he will miss the league game on Sunday at RCD Espanyol in Barcelona.
It is not the first long break for Mbappé this season – knee problems had previously put him out of action.
In terms of sport, Real Madrid is in crisis. Five game days before the end of the season, the gap to league leaders and defending champions FC Barcelona under coach Hansi Flick is eleven points. In the Champions League, the Spanish record champions were eliminated in the quarter-finals against FC Bayern Munich. In the cup, the second division club Albacete Balompié was already over in the round of 16 – after a 2-3 defeat. A victory in the “Clasico” would at least be a small consolation.
