Hundreds of fellow villagers pull everything out of the closet every year to build the most beautiful cart. In 2022, the Kwakelse Kermis parade was declared an intangible cultural heritage. And now there is a work of art, designed by Kwakelaar in heart and sidewalk Dirk Plasmeijer.

“We have to wait and see what happens to the fair this year. I hope we inspire some carts,” he says after the unveiling.

A woman who has been living in De Kwakel for 55 years thinks it is more than rightly that the Kwakel fair has been sealed with a work of art. “It’s just a household name.” On 2 September the fairground parade will travel through the village again. The days before is the party.
