KV Oostende draws attention to the fight against litter

When we think of litter on the beach, we immediately think of tourists who leave their waste behind en masse. But that’s only part of the problem. Because there is also a lot of waste from the sea. The players of the A-team and the youth players of KV Oostende went in search of so-called nurdles, tiny pieces of plastic, under the guidance of the Proper Strand Lopers.

Sean Huwel, Propere Strandloper: “Today there is not much on the beach, but we do find a lot of nurdles. We have already been able to pick up a handful. That is the basic raw material of plastic. They wash ashore en masse because of the spring tide.

Brecht Capon: “I have the impression that it is improving, but sometimes it is still painful to watch. Hopefully actions like these can raise awareness among people. Yes, there are also some youth teams to help. It is interesting for them to be aware about the dirt that is left on the beach, how we keep it clean, and how important that is for the environment.”
