The group that studied Cobain’s autopsy report questions the singer’s cause of death.
Nirvana legend Kurt Cobain died in 1994 when he was 27 years old. The cause of death was found to be suicide caused by a firearm.
A group of forensic experts who examined Cobain’s autopsy reports and police documents claim that Cobain was the victim of a murder, says Daily Mail.
According to investigators, either one or more people caused Cobain’s death by first giving him an overdose of heroin and then shooting him. The death was then staged as a suicide, investigators claim.
One piece of evidence is Cobain’s suicide note. The last four lines of the letter are not Cobain’s handwriting, researchers claim, says The Mirror.
The group has published a peer-reviewed paper based on its analysis of the article.
The research group works informally. Seattle police have not reopened the investigation into Cobain’s cause of death.
The researcher who led the group Michelle Wilkins hopes the authorities will reinvestigate Cobain’s death.
– If we are wrong, prove it to us. We don’t ask for anything else, says Wilkins in an interview with the Daily Mail.
The King County Public Health Agency has commented on the group’s claims, says Newsweek.
According to a representative of the agency, Cobain’s death was investigated in cooperation with the police and forensic authorities.
– We are always ready to review our decisions in the light of new evidence. But to date, we have seen nothing that warrants reconsideration of this case and our previous decision,” the representative says in a statement.
