Kuntz narrowly missed his first win

The former German U21 head coach does not manage to win against the Scandinavians for his debut with the Turkish national team. The game begins with a dream start.

Stefan Kuntz missed a win on his debut as coach of the Turkish national soccer team. With the former successful coach of the German U21s on the sidelines, the Turks only managed to draw 1-1 (1-1) against Norway in the World Cup qualifier, which could not be enough in the race for a ticket for the finals in Qatar in 2022.

League leaders Netherlands already have four more points. Norway also remains ahead of third-placed Turkey and has two points more. Only the group winners qualify with certainty, those second in the table have to go through the play-offs.

Kerem Aktürkoglu (6th) scored early and gave the Turks an ideal start. But as a result, the Norwegians, who had to do without their injured superstar Erling Haaland, were able to free themselves from the pressure from the hosts. Kristian Thorstvedt (41st) scored the deserved equalizer just before the break.

In the second round, the Kuntz team increased the risk again in order to force victory after all. However, the Turks rarely came close to the Norwegian goal, usually the ball was lost well before the danger zone.

Kuntz signed his contract with the Turkish association on September 19. There he succeeded Senol Günes. The former German European champion had worked very successfully for the DFB and reached the European Championship final three times in a row with the U21s. The German team won two of them.
