The police have received more than fifty tips after the art robbery from the Drents Museum in Assen yesterday. “The golden tip is not there yet, but they are all being carefully investigated.”
The Drents Museum has announced that four objects were stolen during the Ramkraak. During the press conference yesterday afternoon, museum director Harry Tupan could not say what had been taken. The museum has since provided clarity. “In addition to the helmet of Cotofenesti, three bracelets were taken.”
The police say that they will continue to analyze visual material and to further investigate the tips. “This is a precise and time -consuming activity. So it can take some time before it is clear whether there are concrete tips and images in between.”
At a quarter to four last night there is an explosion at the Drents Museum. According to the police, they are already on the spot five minutes later, but at that time the perpetrators have already fled. Camera images show that at least three people enter the museum.
Half an hour later, the fire brigade will be notified of a car fire on the Grolloërstraat in Marwijksoord, under the viaduct of the N33. Nobody can be found at the car. The police assume that the burnt -out car has to do with the artificial thinking in the Drents Museum and that the perpetrators have switched to another car in that place.
The stolen helmet of Cotofenesti and three Dacian bracelets are all from the exhibition Dacia – Rich of gold and silver. The exhibition has more than 670 gold and silver pieces, but the perpetrators apparently know what they are coming and run off with the four pieces. The exhibition would be seen for the last time this weekend.
According to Harry Tupan of the Drents Museum, the value is mainly in the history of the pieces. In Romanian media there is talk of ‘a value of millions of euros’ to ‘invaluable’. The museum itself is no longer visible that there has been a thud.
Until now, there is no trace of the perpetrators and the gold objects. Different scenarios are conceivable. This way the objects can be commissioned for a collection. In addition, there is a possibility of taking the loot, the criminals in such a case ask for ransom in exchange for returning the loot. Since the loot consists of gold objects, there is also the possibility that the thieves are out of the value of the gold and melting the loot.
