Kühn leaves FC Bayern for good: change to Rapid Wien perfect

Recently awarded to Aue

As expected, former U20 international Nicolas Kühn has joined SK Rapid Vienna after two and a half years at FC Bayern Munich II. Hütteldorfer officially announced the commitment of the 22-year-old right winger on Thursday. Kühn has signed with the traditional Austrian club until 2026 – since his contract in Munich was valid until 2023, a fee is due. According to “Sky”, this is in the mid-six-digit range.

It is the third time that a club has taken Kühn’s money into his hands for a commitment. In 2018, Ajax Amsterdam paid RB Leipzig 2 million euros for the services of the then 18-year-old, who was only active in the youth team of the “Red Bulls”. Thanks to this move, Kühn is one of the most expensive German U18 transfers in history. In addition, FC Bayern paid a transfer fee, the amount of which is not known.

For Rapid, Kühn, who was awarded the Fritz Walter Gold Medal in 2019, reportedly canceled other interested clubs such as Darmstadt 98, FC St. Pauli and Hannover 96. At the club from the Austrian capital, the right winger is considered a dream player and should replace Kelvin Arase (23), who is moving to Karlsruher SC. Most recently, Kühn was loaned out by FC Bayern to FC Erzgebirge Aue, but he was unable to prevent their relegation to the 3rd division. The attacking player contributed three goals and four assists in 27 second division games.

Rapid sports director Zoran Barisic said in a statement from the club: “We are delighted that Nicolas has chosen SK Rapid. He is an absolute dream player of ours, who we have had on our radar for a long time, and who we have tried very hard to get from a very early stage. Together with sports coordinator Steffen Hofmann and chief scout Mathias Ringler, we also got an impression of him live in the stadium this season. His dynamism and technical skills will enliven our offensive game, make it more versatile and variable. We presented Nicolas with a clear plan of how the club should go in the future. We are all the more proud that he can identify with this challenge 100 percent and that he sees SK Rapid as the best possible next step in his career.”
