Triple Jumper Kristiina Mäkelä perfected his World Cup fitness in the best possible way. He made his own record at Lempäälä’s height, length and jumping carnivals. The new record result is now recorded at 14.47.

Mäkelä already shrugged with his opening jump: 14.50 was the winning result of the race, but the wind was behind him at 2.4 meters per second, so the quote is not valid for statistics. Instead, the defector who was shaken in the second round remains in the books and covers.

– It was wonderful when the jump started to be found again, Mäkelä rejoiced according to SUL’s press release.

Mäkelä’s, 29, previous record of 14.41 was set last summer in Kuortane.

– There were no expectations for this competition. This was only supposed to be the last training competition before the World Championships, when it was decided with the coach that there would be no jumps in training, but that energy would be built through the games.

The suffocating heat of Lempäälä suited Mäkelä at the start of the race. He jumped 14.25 and 14.14 on his next attempts.

– Then the heat hit my legs. Errors started to appear on the third and fourth jumps. I decided to leave the race after the fourth, but I gave it my all.

Final shot on order

Saturday’s result is really hard currency in this season’s world statistics. Mäkelä rises to number 8 on the world list.

Top woman of the season, from Venezuela Yulimar Rojas, has jumped 14.83. For example, the third in the world, the USA Tori Franklinhas reached a measure of 14.59.

– I always point out that the statistics in value competitions are just paper. You have to succeed there. In qualifying for the World Championships, you need such a semi-success and to the finals when you get such a jump, Mäkelä said.

He is known to be a rock-solid value competition qualifier, but he is often left exhausted in the pole vault of the final competition.

SE woman Senni Salminen did not compete in Lempäälä. His season’s best is 14.32 and Finland’s record result from last summer is 14.63.

Both will be seen at the World Championships in Eugene. On Tuesday, Mäkelä will fly to the Finnish team’s preparation camp in Creswell, USA.

– Now the most important thing is to get the body to recover before going to camp. It now received such blows again, which it has not received for some time.
