Kortrijk is still looking for helping hands: around 2,000 volunteers are needed every day. The Special Olympics are much more than just sports. For example, there will also be activities at schools, together with the athletes. Because there is still work to be done. Dominique Dehaene, director of Special Olympics Belgium: “If you speak to parents and supervisors, you see that this is a very beautiful snapshot of people coming together. But in daily life there are still some obstacles that need to be removed, so that these people are fully included in our society.”
On Wednesday, May 28, the Olympic flame will be lit and Kortrijk will be ready for three days of Special Olympics.
