Korfball field in the middle of a football field bothers the neighborhood: ‘Who comes up with something like that?’

Most people in the area are not waiting for it, but a korfball field has recently been installed across the football field at the Spieakker in Oss. The problem is that it is no longer possible to play football safely, because the korfball posts are on the football field.

“I opened the curtains a few months ago and then there were excavators to build the korfball field,” says a local resident. She is visibly surprised. “We all knew nothing with the whole neighborhood. When I called the municipality, they could no longer do anything about it.”

“We just want our old football field back.”

The korfball field is the result of the initiative of a resident of the neighborhood. The agreement was that he would inform the rest of the neighborhood, but that never happened. The municipality has complied with the request and has placed an artificial grass korfball field in the middle of the football field. The whole neighborhood has fallen over this.

“We just want our old football field back,” says Raymond Overdevest. “It is waiting for accidents if you play football here with those korfball posts in the field. If you take the ball and run towards the goal, you will hit such a post,” he demonstrates. “Who comes up with something like that? It’s a big mystery how this can be done here.”

“Normally you decide these things together, but that just didn’t happen.”

“A number of objections have also been submitted from the neighborhood against the korfball field, but nothing has been done about it,” says Raymond. “We live in a democracy here and normally you decide these kinds of things together, but that just didn’t happen. The district coordinator was also not aware of the plans for the transverse korfball field. We knew nothing until the construction work started.”

Meanwhile, work on the field has come to a standstill and football cannot be played. According to local residents, there is never any korfball. “The children from the neighborhood would rather just have a football field. “It was a beautiful field that was also in bloom in the spring. I think that korfball field can be removed immediately, but the question is whether the municipality will do that, because it obviously cost money,” says the neighbor who looks out over the field.

“The pain is with us that we’re not involved.”

Monday evening there was an information meeting where it turned out that the frustration among about twenty-five local residents is great. “Procedural errors were made by the municipality and communication was poor. The pain is with us that we are not involved,” said a speaker.

During the evening it turned out that the residents want their football field back and that may also be an artificial grass field. After a lot of back and forth talk, the residents want a new artificial grass football field next to the korfball field, both in the same direction and no longer crossed.
