Aircraft on the way to Schiphol get more space in Drenthe. Civil aviation will soon be allowed to use the area where fighter jets are still allowed to practice. According to the cabinet, the number of aircraft that comes over Drenthe is not changing.

According to State Secretary Gijs Tuinman (BBB) of Defense, the nuisance for residents of Northern Drenthe is not too bad. “The F-35 makes a noise, but that is mainly in taking off and landing. That happens mainly in Leeuwarden and Volkel,” said gardener.

According to Tuinman, the F-35s train at a height of about six kilometers. The majority of the exercises, around eighty percent,, according to his ministry, take place above the North Sea. The rest of the flights is above land.

Residents of villages such as Roden, Peize and Paterswolde can therefore be confronted with flying military aircraft in the future. “You will continue to hear aircraft in the Netherlands, also F-35s. They are important for deterrence to the east (Russia, ed.) And they must therefore continue to fly,” says Gardener.

According to the Ministry of Defense, expanding the northern practice area has no influence on the placement of fighter jets on Groningen Airport Eelde. Together with, among others, Lelystad Airport and Twente Airport, Eelde is in the picture as a new basis for extra flights with the F-35. According to the State Secretary, this is independent of the decision on practice areas.

The fighter jets to be able to practice in the north do not necessarily have to be stationed in the neighborhood, the ministry says. The combat aircraft that are on Volkel in Noord-Brabant fly to the northern training area in about ten minutes.

The cabinet will work out the plans in the coming period. The House of Representatives is then upset to make a decision about the aviation revision.
