Vacant commercial buildings, it is a thorn in the eye of each board. In Koksijde, 89 of the 681 buildings are currently vacant, more than 13 percent, the average on the coast is just under ten percent. A tax on vacancy has to remedy something, but there is also support. Patricia Vandenbroucke, Ships of Ondernemen Koksijde: “That means that from next year we will not only oblige but also stimulate. We are thinking of introducing premiums for renovation, climate and energy, and support in a total package. We also think of crafts and pop-ups, further than just the hospitality and shops.”
