There will be a train connection later. Then the rich Amsterdammers also come to the coast. “But when the ‘ordinary’ people come later, they flee. To Domburg and Noordwijk, for example,” says Koen.
Only the elite on the beach: ‘An abomination’
Mayor David Moolenburgh is happy with the research. He already knew the major storylines, but he still read new facts. “That there were five elite gentlemen who came up with this. And not just for money, but also because they wanted to help that poor seaside resort forward. That’s great.”
He doesn’t want to think that only rich people would now come to Zandvoort. “We are there for everyone. Whoever you are, no matter how big or small your wallet is. In Nice, for example, you pay a huge amount for a beach bed. An abomination in my eyes.”
In addition to a book, Zandvoort is also celebrating ‘200 years of seaside resort’ with a light show at the town hall. Look below for a short impression.
