In 2021, 4,290 Belgians reported a theft with a ruse to the police, an increase of five percent compared to 2020. In such thefts, a person pretends to be someone else or uses a ruse to enter a home. The Federal Public Service Home Affairs therefore warns citizens to be careful who they let into their homes. “Criminals are increasingly using inventive pretexts,” it sounds.
