Last summer, traffic in various seaside resorts became congested at peak times, including Knokke-Heist. People couldn’t find parking, kept driving around and eventually everything was stuck. But Knokke-Heist wants a solution. “We receive a lot of complaints and reports,” said Alderman for Mobility, Annie Vandenbussche. “There were a lot of frustrations from people who said that the parking pressure for residents had become much too great.”
Subsequently, measurements and counts were made, on the basis of which Knokke-Heist now wants to reform. With the residents’ card you will only be able to park in your own neighborhood and no longer throughout the territory, but the municipality wants to enforce rotational parking in particular. “People no longer want a day tourist to stay here all day. He will have to disappear after four o’clock.”
Day parking
If you want to park for a whole day, you have to go to the day car park. That is the new name for the peripheral parking in Knokke-Heist, which will become a lot more attractive. These are just proposals, but this summer the parking time for visitors will be limited everywhere. The municipality wants the parking policy to be supported by the residents. The ships do not want to comment on new rates yet, but it may not be cheaper. The parking plan should be completed after the summer.
