FC Bayern Munich is hoping for Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano to return for the top game at Bayer Leverkusen, but they have to fear Alphonso Davies will be next out. “Phonzie has twisted his knee and now needs to be examined,” said Tuchel on Saturday after the 3-1 Bundesliga win against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Update 10:50 p.m.: Davies has suffered a strained medial ligament in his left knee. FC Bayern announced this diagnosis on Saturday evening. The professional will have to take a break. No information was given about the exact downtime.

Tuchel said he would have “no words” if Davies was injured now. The Canadian left-back (23) was just on the way back to better form. Central defender Upamecano was out against Gladbach with a torn thigh muscle, midfielder Kimmich with a shoulder injury. Tuchel hopes that the two can be there against Leverkusen next Saturday. “We will definitely try that with Upa and Josh,” said the Bayern coach.

“That will be decided in the middle of the week.” Bayern are also still missing the long-term injured Serge Gnabry (hamstring injury in the left adductor area), Bouna Sarr (torn cruciate ligament) and Daniel Peretz (injury to the medial ligament in the right knee). Min-jae Kim is out of the Asian Cup due to his participation with South Korea.
