Lukas Klostermann will stay at RB Leipzig beyond the summer. The 27-year-old national player has extended his contract in the trade fair city, which originally expired after this season, until 2028. The “Red Bulls” announced this on Thursday.

With a market value of 8 million euros, the defender was one of the most valuable Bundesliga professionals who would have been available for free in the summer. For Klostermann, the journey in Leipzig that began in 2014 continues. At that time he moved from his training club VfL Bochum to RB for a fee of one million euros. He has played 278 games there so far, in which he has scored 14 goals and twelve assists. He also won the cup twice and won the German Super Cup once.

“Of course there were also considerations as to whether something new would be possible after the long time in Leipzig and accordingly, together with my wife and family, I calmly thought about the next step. And for me this step now clearly means RB Leipzig,” Klostermann commented on the extension. The sporting leadership signaled to him “how much people rely on me here and this appreciation simply gives you a good feeling. The overall package of club, city and our fans is outstanding and that’s why I’m really keen to continue writing our history.”

“We have always emphasized that it is a central and important personnel decision for us to extend Lukas Klostermann for as long a term as possible. We have now achieved this before the start of the second half of the season. Lukas is extremely important for our team and for our club because he is simply a very good guy and reliable player who can be used in a variety of ways and has been playing at a high level for years,” said RB sports director Rouven Schröder.

They are proud that “we were able to extend the contracts with Lukas Klostermann, Willi Orban, Kevin Kampl and Yussuf Poulsen in just three months. This means we are retaining four key players who have been there for a long time, have formed the framework for years and will continue to form the framework in the future. It’s something unique to have so many guys on the team who will follow our path over this period.”
