The mill was built in 1798 and was protected as a monument in 1942. Since 1974, the Klockemolen has been owned by the municipality of Zwevegem. After storm damage, the blades were removed in March 2019 for safety reasons. Restoration of the blades was not possible. The mill hood was also removed and thoroughly restored. The unique double seat crosspiece was also restored. This crossbeam is one of the most special parts of the Klockemolen and is of exceptional architectural importance.

Recognizable heritage and wind-powered tool

The restoration of the masonry followed in 2021–2022. At the same time, the frames, windows and doors were also tackled. These interventions provided a structural reinforcement of the mill and better protection against further deterioration.

Work is currently underway to replace the blade cross. But more work is planned. The total cost is estimated at 278,000 euros, almost 86,000 euros is subsidized by the Immovable Heritage Agency. The interventions bring the Klockemolen closer to its original function: not only as a recognizable heritage in the landscape, but also as a wind-powered tool.
