Cyclists must drive more quietly in Amsterdam parks. To get that done, the municipality will place screens on busy cycling routes in the Rembrandtpark, Westerpark and Vondelpark. The ANP reports this today.
At the busiest moments you can see statues on those screens of park users who thank cyclists for driving quietly. After four weeks, the municipality looks at whether the test has worked
“Certainly with good weather it is busy with people who walk their dogs, children who play, walkers, athletes. But many cyclists also cycle in between and because the group is growing fast cyclists, it is becoming increasingly dangerous,” says traffic alpower Melanie van der Horst. The screens must “make cyclists more aware of their environment and of the others in the park”.
The speed of cyclists is compared before and after the test. The results will follow after the summer. “If the test is successful, it can be extended to other parks,” said the municipality.
