Lahlah is number two on the GL/PvdA candidate list, a prominent position. Yet the green-red MP was especially notable for her inconspicuousness.
Lahlah put Timmermans in his shirt
During the campaign, Frans Timmermans was in trouble when it emerged that Lahlah, despite her high position in the parliamentary faction, preferred to see herself as the mayor of Tilburg. Her application ended up on the street.
In response, Lahlah said she felt she had not handled things properly. She had not told Timmermans about her application. Her party leader had to find out from the media. She put on the sackcloth. “Sometimes a dream comes your way,” she wrote on X. She said she applied “out of love for Tilburg.”
Esmah Lahlah, Frans Timmermans’ right-hand man, secretly wanted to become mayor
But Lahlah has bet on several horses, the AD discovered. Because she also ran for mayor of Delft. That job also went to a D66 member: in Tilburg former D66 state secretary Fleur Gräper got the job, in Delft former D66 leader Alexander Pechtold.
