Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has given an update on his health condition. The former top striker had to resign from his duties at Ajax at the end of 2023 due to a serious burnout, but is improving. He announced this to ESPN on Monday during the presentation of the Eredivisie Awards.

“It’s going a lot better, although it’s going slowly,” said a candid Hunelaar. “It crept in slowly, so it is also slowly going out. But it is going in the right direction.”

How does he work on his recovery? “When you sit at home, you have to come to a standstill. There is no other choice. You have to let go of everything. Get close to yourself and then find your way back up.”

Although it is not always easy to relax, the former player of Ajax, Real Madrid and Schalke 04, among others, says with a smile. “With four kids, it’s very busy. When I lie down in bed, I hear them playing football. Oh well, life just goes on, you can’t stop that.”

Huntelaar was included in Ajax’s technical organization in March 2022, but had to resign from his duties more than a year and a half later for health reasons. Since then he has rarely appeared in public.
