Kitesurfer in distress rescued by NH90 helicopter

Meanwhile, several phones came in at the MRCC for a person in need. The rescue boat Brandaris from Nieuwpoort and a NH90 helicopter from Koksijde base were sent to the scene. The fire brigade was on standby near the surf club ‘Windekind’ in the Dewittelaan.

The NH90 retrieved the man from the sea and transferred him to the Koksijde base where the hypothermic surfer was treated in an ambulance.

The Maritime Police also arrived at the Koksijde base.
