Among the men, Tsegaye Getachew failed to defend his title. Last year’s winner finished second (2.04.19). Third place went to his compatriot Getaneh Molla with 2.04.20.
Bertukan Welde followed half a minute and finished second (2.17.56) among the women. Mekides Shimeles, also from Ethiopia, made his debut in the marathon and finished third: 2.19.56.
Choukoud Dutch champion
Khalid Choukoud has won the Dutch marathon title for the fourth time in his career. The 39-year-old runner from The Hague took gold in the Amsterdam marathon with a time of 2.08.00.
