King’s Night Hoorn is a concept: “Just like carnival, but better”

King’s Night in Hoorn filled the Kerkplein and the Roode Steen with partygoers. The event has become a household name and a warm-up for what is yet to come on King’s Day. “I see happy people, happy music. I love that.”

The evening starts at seven o’clock. And it becomes clear that everyone still needs to warm up. Although one man in his scooter is already dancing in front of the stage. “King’s evening, unforgettable. I’ve been looking forward to this,” he says.

As it gets later, and also darker, the crowds quickly increase. The catering entrepreneurs around the two squares have joined forces and are organizing the event. With two stages on which different DJs play.

King’s Night has also become a household name in Hoorn. But what the secret is remains unclear. “It’s just fun,” says a visitor. “It’s a fun theme party. Just like carnival, but better,” explains another.

Anyway, only happy faces at the pub owners. But perhaps the most at Jort Poeze of café de Klinker on the Roode Steen. He is allowed to play on stage as a DJ. “Very nice. Playing on such a stage in your own city; what more could you want”, he says shortly after his performance.

He also knows the start of two long days. “We will soon continue playing in the café until 4 a.m. And then we will open again on King’s Day at 11 a.m., until 2 a.m. Tough days, but they also give you a lot of energy.” he says smiling.
