King Charles has chosen a special place to record his Christmas speech.

One of the long-standing traditions of the British royal family is the monarch’s Christmas speech, which is presented today on Christmas Day.

You can watch Queen Charles’ pre-recorded speech above at 17:00 Finnish time. In Britain, the speech premieres at the same time on television and radio.

Charles is breaking a long tradition with his Christmas speech this year. The speech was filmed at the Fitzrovia Chapel in central London. It is the first time in more than a decade that the Christmas speech has been filmed elsewhere than at Buckingham Palace or on the grounds of royal estates. Queen Elizabeth used to give her speeches usually at the palace, Sandringham Estate or Windsor Castle.

Charles will deliver his first Christmas speech in 2022 from St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, near the final resting place of his mother Queen Elizabeth and father Prince Philip.

Fitzrovia is the former Middlesex Hospital Chapel. It is thought that the king chose the place in question partly because it has a connection with those working in healthcare. Brittihovi’s year has been overshadowed by family members’ health problems.

Today, the decorative chapel building is used for various exhibitions and community events, which are attended by representatives of various religions and non-religious people.

Thus, it is also believed that the choice is connected to the king’s effort to build bridges between different religions. Health care and civil society are thought to be the themes of Charles’ speech.

King Charles’ Christmas speech is filmed next to a spectacular Christmas tree. The tree has since been donated to Clapham Hospice. PDO

Especially at the beginning of the year, there were news from the British court that both Prince Charles and Princess Catherine were suffering from cancer. Towards the end of the year, Queen Camilla was ill longer and had to cancel several events.

The summer saw widespread riots and protests in Britain after a 17-year-old boy stabbed three children to death in Southport, England on July 29.

Charles recently praised citizens who did not set out to incite hatred and spoke of cases where “community spirit” and “compassion and perseverance of the majority” have covered the “aggression and crime of a few”.
