A consulting firm focusing on residence permit and tax planning services says on their websitethat for those registered in Switzerland, Como is an excellent destination also because of lower taxation.

According to the consulting firm, for example, with the tactic of two residences in Switzerland, those who primarily keep their books can come under lighter income and wealth taxation in Italy. The savings compared to Switzerland are described as significant.

Iltalehti interviewed an Italian tax expert a year ago, who, however, does not consider Räikkönen’s situation to be as black and white as the consulting agency’s website suggests.

– In order to accurately assess Räikkönen’s situation, you should know what kind of contract he has with his Swiss home canton. The cantons make so-called tax agreements for the super-rich – typically with, for example, F1 drivers.

He did not think that the former formula star would particularly benefit from staying in Italy.

– Except possibly in the case that the whole family moves their books to Como. Those permanently registered in Italy benefit from Italy’s low wealth tax and the fact that real estate tax is not paid for a permanent residence in Italy, an expert source said at the time.

– In Räikkönen’s case, however, what kind of tax agreement he has with Switzerland has an effect. It can be even cheaper than the Italian wealth tax.

And the wealth of the 2007 world champion is enough. The financial publication Forbes estimated in 2019 that the Finn had achieved salary and bonuses of up to 300 million euros.

After Forbes’ estimate, Räikkönen’s career continued for another two years, so the number is likely to be even higher.
