The first shoes launched in the collaboration collection between Nike and Skims received mixed reception.

Kim Kardashian founded her Skims brand in 2019 together with Jens and Emma Grede. All Over Press

Influencer Kim Kardashian’s, 45, Skims brand collections and certain product launches might cause a stir if anything. In part, such launches may very well be part of skillful and calculated marketing, when products that divide opinions – which may end up being sold, for example in small batches – sell out quickly.

The first footwear from the Nikeskims collaboration collection that went on sale this week received a mixed reception, but they still sold out on launch day earlier this week.

Sporty ballerinas equipped with mesh fabric Mary Jane straps resemble trendy barefoot shoes, where the toes are separated with a traditional Japanese, familiar from the 15th century tabi– in such a way that the big toe has its own recess. Since 1989, the Parisian luxury fashion house Maison Margiela has also favored this kind of detail in its trendy shoe models that have ended up on the feet of many fashionistas.

British model Iris Law was seen wearing these ballerinas in Los Angeles. All Over Press

The price of the Nikeskims Rift Mesh shoes from the collaboration collection was 169.99 euros and they were available in three different color options. Skims announced just yesterday that similar ballerina models will be available later in February in a total of five different colors at the next launch.

The comment field of the shoe release on Skims’ Instagram page was filled with a wide variety of opinions during the launch. Some fell in love with the collection’s shoes, some questioned them.

– These are super cute.

– I’m so excited.

– I need these.

– Kind of cute, kind of ugly. Give me two of these.

– I’m sad that these have already sold out.

– What are these?

– Why use something that looks like a cloven hoof?

– These are ugly.

– What are these for?
