Kim Hartung-van der Bom (46) from Rijswijk did not hesitate for a moment and moved party store Party Point to another building in Dorpsstraat. “Life should be celebrated.”

During a dinner, friend Isolde Roos said that she wanted to quit Party Point. She had other plans for the future. I decided to go for it and first shadowed Isolde for a while before she stopped for good. Friends and family helped me move the entire range and furnish the building according to my wishes.”

Homemade balloon wall

The new building is smaller than the previous one, but Kim has got all the stuff in it. “We succeeded with a measuring stick.” Her husband made a counter from a kitchen countertop and a few upside-down cabinets. She is most proud of the balloon wall behind it. “I bought transparent card index boxes on Marktplaats that we attached to the wall. I put all types of balloons in them so that the customer can easily choose.” She placed an inflatable dragon and witch outside the door. “I call the dragon Fire.”

Special gender revelation

Kim enjoys participating in the celebration of an important moment in someone’s life. For example, a woman once came into the store whose husband had died. A second grandchild was on the way and a boy would be named after her husband. She wanted to have a gender reveal prepared by Kim and gave her an envelope with the gender, without her knowing it. “I saw that it was indeed a boy and prepared the party,” says Kim. That lady was so happy that she came to the store afterwards to share the photos and the video with me. That moved me.”

Magic tricks

Father Victor regularly comes to help his daughter Kim in the store. “He has a theater background, is retired and loves being here. He knows all kinds of magic tricks with which he surprises the children.”

Sometimes Kim has to explain to typical Zoetermeer customers that she is not ‘Roos’, a well-known Zoetermeer business family. “Then I say: but I also come from a nice family. And without me, Party Point would no longer exist.”
