Killer brother had world’s smallest cell phone in jail

By Anne Losensky

A mobile phone as small as a thumb, but with two SIM cards. “I had never seen anything like it before,” says the investigator who evaluated it after it was confiscated from one of Maryam’s alleged killers – in Moabit prison!

Day 32 in the murder trial of Yousuf Sayed (27) and Mahdi Seyed H. (23) from Afghanistan. On July 13, 2021, her sister Maryam (34) disappeared. On videos from Südkreuz station, both dragged a bulky suitcase to the train in the direction of Munich that day. Maryam’s body was dug up in Bavaria three weeks later.

Charged: collegial murder for base motives. Yousuf, the elder, is now trying to save Mahdi, the younger, from jail: a few days ago he made a dubious horror confession. He alone choked the big sister in an argument and suddenly she was dead. Because the body didn’t fit in the suitcase, he slit her throat.

It was not until June 30, 2022 that guards in Yousuf H.’s detention center found the mini cell phone. He made two phone calls with it: one number leads to a fake person, the other to his married lover in Bavaria, with whom he has a child.

In the summer of 2021, Yousuf H. was very well prepared when the homicide squad got their hands on his mobile phone: all WhatsApp chats before July 14, 2021 were deleted, as were the call logs from the end of June to July 15, 2021. However, since spam mails with suitcase offers from July 10, 2021.

The investigator: That indicates that he was looking for a suitcase in advance. The search terms were: “suitcase”, “up to 70 kg”, “Berlin”.

Judgment on December 12th.
