VfL Wolfsburg did not get beyond a draw in the home game against Holstein Kiel. The VfL actually had the game under control after a double strike.
Risinger Holstein Kiel surprisingly died of a point on Friday evening. The “storks” won a 2-2 draw in the Volkswagen Arena (0: 1) and can therefore look forward to a possibly important point in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga.
VfL Wolfsburg is likely to struggle with the lost points. The Lower Saxony had shot the Kiel leadership by David Zec (13th minute) in the second half with a double strike within three minutes. After Patrick Wimmer (50th), striker Jonas Wind brought the stadium to shake (53.).
The VfL subsequently controlled the action, but shortly before the end had to swallow the balance out of nowhere. Steven Skrzybski had the numerous Kiel fans who had traveled again (80th).
The guests remain in the table after the point gain 17. Wolfsburg initially pushes six on Europa League rank.
A Slovak-Slovenian co-production brought the surprising leadership of the guests. Wolfsburg coach Ralph Hasenhüttl looked to the ground after the Slovenian ZEC scored the 1-0 head after the flank of the Slovak defender Dominik Javorcek.
Immediately afterwards, ZEC was back in focus. After a duel between the 25-year-old with VfL jewel Mohamed Amoura (15th), the Lower Saxony demanded penalty. But the light thrust against the top clipper in Wolfsburg was no longer enough. Referee Sven Jablonski did not get involved in the request and decided on a penalty.
Wolfsburg remained the game -determining team – and had more than 65 percent possession of the ball during the first half. But too few chances came about. Central defender Konstantino’s coulierakis tried it with a long shot from just under 25 meters, but his attempt barely rushed past the housing.
Hasenhüttl sent a much more offensive VfL into the second half. The coach brought newcomer Andreas Skov Olsen and the Austrian Wimmer. And the substitute actors delivered directly. First the Danish international missed the connection with his shot, then Wimmer got his turn and pushed in after a clever pass from Jonas Wind to equalize. Kiel’s goalkeeper Timon Weiner still touched the shot, but could not prevent the goal.
The 23 -year -old Wimmer really turned up. He put the 2-1 of wind by corner by corner. The Danish offensive player finished heading to the lead. Wimmer, who has been playing at VfL since 2022 and had to struggle with a lengthy syndesmosis tape tear in between, was hard to stop. First he failed on the latte (56.) and then on the post (64th).
But the Kielers came back completely surprisingly. The substitute attacker Skrzybski pulled off on the scoring of the wolves. Goalkeeper Kamil Grabara came to the deflected shot, but the ball slowly slipped into the goal behind him.
