Former Borussia player Kevin Großkreutz is sure: he knows the name of the new BVB coach.

BVB is looking for a new coach and the list of possible candidates is long. Urs Fischer, Sandro Wagner, Erik ten Hag, Sebastian Hoeneß and Niko Kovac – they are all considered possible successors to the fired Nuri Sahin. But one name stands out, albeit for different reasons.

Former Borussia player Kevin Großkreutz is sure that there is only one person who can get the struggling club back on track. “I know it and I’m just saying it now,” he said in the “Viertelstunde Fußball” podcast. For the 2014 world champion it can only be Niko Kovac. One reason for his assumption: Matthias Sammer, consultant at BVB and the former Bayern coach are neighbors, he “heard that somewhere.” Former soccer stars Dietmar Hamann and Fredi Bobic also spoke out in favor of Kovac.

But former national player Max Kruse doesn’t think much of the successful coach. Kovac and Kruse know each other from their time together at Wolfsburg, which the national player does not have fond memories of. Kruse left the club due to differences with Kovac. He is also critical of a possible successor in Dortmund. “He is my favorite for Dortmund, so that the club also realizes what crisis really means. Peace, joy, pancakes will be over,” emphasized Kruse in his podcast “Flatterball” and added: “Everyone who If you want to do that, I highly doubt that it will be successful.”
