In the summer, Mats Hummels and Borussia Dortmund parted ways. It was quite surprising that the veteran’s contract with BVB was not extended for another year. The separation was intended to herald a change in the team hierarchy and the age structure of the squad. Sports director Sebastian Kehl apparently wasn’t a big fan of it.
