Kehl still believes in BVB title: “Thing is not done yet”

Reactions to the Bundesliga summit

Borussia Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl is far from giving up the fight for the title with FC Bayern, despite the clear defeat in a direct duel in Munich. FCB captain Thomas Müller emphasized the importance of Munich’s demonstration of power in the Bundesliga classic. “It was another statement to show: If Bayern have to, then they can,” said the veteran after the 4-2 win and return to the top of the table.

Müller ran, worked, directed – and scored. And even twice. “He’s one of the players who embodies FC Bayern like almost no other,” said Thomas Tuchel. To reduce him to a “truffle pig in the penalty area” would not do Müller justice. “He’s just up for kicking, just up for sport,” said the 49-year-old coach. “He’s not too bad for anything and a super smart player. He’s a role model against the ball.” Bayern now have a two-point lead going into the remaining eight games (to the table). “It is quite good that no one is too euphoric. There’s still work to be done,” explained Nagelsmann’s successor after his first win with the new employer from Munich. “Everyone knew what was at stake. A change of coach always causes unrest, but the will to implement things and to suffer if it doesn’t work was there 100 percent and that’s the most important thing,” explained Tuchel after the game on the TV channel “Sky”.

Dortmund, who dropped back to second place, practiced perseverance slogans: We are Borussia, we’ll get up again – and the thing is not over yet, said sports director Sebastian Kehl after the 2: 4 from the point of view of the Westphalians. “It’s a bitter day, it hurts. But the championship has not yet been decided today. Today many were not where they need to be to win here in Munich. But we still have five home games and three away games. There are still a few points to be awarded,” Kehl continued. Coach Edin Terzic made a similar statement in the press conference after the game: “We’re going home with a portion of anger. But then we will look at the table and see that we are two points behind the leaders.”

BVB keeper Kobel about mistakes in a duel with FC Bayern: “Nice shit”

BVB captain Marco Reus was also disappointed with his team’s result at the Bundesliga summit: “We’re all only human and it doesn’t go unnoticed if you’re unlucky 1-0 down here. You don’t have that much self-confidence then, but we didn’t give up. There is no question about that and it has to be like that. It’s difficult to survive here. A lot of things came together that we didn’t want.”

Keeper Gregor Kobel, who was responsible for the first goal conceded with an unintentional slapstick insert, was self-critical afterwards: “Nice shit, you just have to say it like that. I have no idea how the ball slipped through there. I’ve come back twice now from a shoulder injury and made two relatively big mistakes right after. I have to see that I can do better. But I wouldn’t blame it on a lack of match practice. You can always make a good game whether you play in goal all the time or not. There are just shitty days and today was one of them.”
