First supposed emergency solution, now a permanent favorite: Borussia Dortmund has rewarded coach Niko Kovac with an extension of the contract by 2027.
That gave the footballBundesliga club known on Tuesday. The 53-year-old and his coaching team took over BVB in the table last winter and led the club to qualify for the Champions League.
Kovac: “We have a lot together here”
“We have achieved a lot together in the past six months and brought Borussia back on course. As a team of coaches, we felt great confidence and the feeling of being able to make a difference here together with the club and the fans,” said Kovac when signing the contract.
“With honest work, clear decisions and great joy, we want to help Borussia find their way back to old strength,” says the coach and promises: “We still have a lot together here.”
Ricken: “Mutual trust as a basis”
“Niko is committed to his job at BVB with skin and hair. He is a soccer specialist with clear principles, fundamentally, straight ahead in his communication and rewarded performance,” said sports manager Lars Ricken. Under his disciplined management, the Bundesliga club found the road to success, stabilized defensive work, scored significantly more goals than before and again attractive football.
“The negotiations were very fair, respectful and solution -oriented right from the start. This mutual trust is the basis of our cooperation,” said Ricken.
Kehl: “Will continue the successful path”
Sports director Sebastian Kehl emphasized: “We are aiming for the maximum success and want to go into every game with conviction, intensity and passion. Niko calls for Niko with his team every day, and we believe that we will continue the successful path of the final cathedral of last season.”
