Kazakhstan is recovering from riots

Shooting is still heard in some regions of Kazakhstan, and the counter-terrorist operation continues. In Alma-Ata, armed groups take refuge in squares and parks. Heavy fog complicates police work. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, more than 4 thousand participants in the riots have already been detained, some of them are foreigners. Today it became known about the detention of the former head of the National Security Committee of the republic, Karim Massimov. He is suspected of treason.

Kazakhstani security forces continue their counter-terrorist operation. They are cleaning up the city and its surroundings. The militants have broken up into small groups and are trying to hide among the peaceful townspeople. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan reports more than 4 thousand detainees. Among them and foreign citizens from neighboring states… They face life imprisonment on terrorism charges.

Stripping continues in other regions, mainly in the south of the country. The highest – red – the level of terrorist threat remains in Kyzylorda. In the Zhambyl region, security forces found a cache of weapons.

The main news from Kazakhstan today comes from the capital. More precisely, from the building of the National Security Committee. The department announced the start of a pre-trial investigation into high treason. Former head of KNB Karim Massimov detained… The KNB’s official report states that in addition to Karimov, other officials have been detained on charges of treason. Other information in the interests of the investigation was not disclosed.

Massimov is a significant figure for Kazakhstani politics. He held the highest government posts: he headed the government for 7 years, recently headed the National Security Committee – until the latest events.

The presidential administration said that the preparation of such a large-scale terrorist attack would have been impossible without the support of the security forces and the state apparatus. In his address to the people, President Tokayev said that the state was actually attacked by terrorists, including from abroad.

“Alma-Ata alone was attacked by 20,000 bandits. Their actions showed a clear plan of attacks on military, administrative and social facilities in almost all areas, well-coordinated coordination of actions, high combat readiness and bestial cruelty. In addition to the militants, there were specialists trained in ideological sabotage. It looks like they were trained and managed by a single command post, “said Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan.

Meanwhile, most of the country is returning to normal. The authorities gradually return internet and mobile communications… Banks partially started working, shops resumed cashless payments.

In most regions, the work of utilities has been fully restored. The amount of damage caused by the actions of the terrorists is already in the hundreds of millions of dollars. The blow fell on the most important infrastructure facilities. Medical facilities were also damaged. The militants purposefully burned ambulances and fire brigades. But, of course, small and medium-sized businesses have suffered the most.

The state asked eyewitnesses not to delete the video of the riots in order to use it for further investigation.
