Eintracht Frankfurt left the Europa League on Thursday. The next day the bad news continued.

Double bad news for Eintracht Frankfurt: The Bundesliga club has to do without two important players. As Eintracht announced on Friday evening, Kauã Santos tore the cruciate ligament in the Europa League against Tottenham Hotspur (0-1) on Thursday. It will be missing for months. In addition, world champion Mario Götze fails with a muscle injury in the thigh “until further notice”.

Santos had suffered the serious injury to the Europa League off against Tottenham Hotspur. The Brazilian caused the decisive scene in 0-1 when he committed a foul in the penalty area in the 43rd minute. Dominic Solanke converted the due penalty for the Londoners – and Santos had to be replaced shortly afterwards. The 22-year-old had recently represented the injured Kevin Trapp, who paused because of a shin leg problem. Now Trapp could give his comeback on Sunday (from 3:30 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online) at the away game in Augsburg.

Götze injured himself without an opposing influence and had to get off the field early. Trainer Dino Toppmöller replaced the 32-year-old after 17 minutes.
