Katja Schuurman continues to support Thijs Römer, despite the fact that he has been guilty of sex crimes against three underage girls. “But I do have deep pain.”
Thijs Römer will probably never be able to work in the Dutch media and film industry again. No TV channel or movie wants to be associated with sex crimes against minors, even after serving a sentence. The actor can never, but really never again on the poster of such a cozy romantic comedy.
Katya responds
It is striking that the women in Thijs’ life remained very quiet until recently. According to Yvonne Coldeweijer, his last sweetheart, Igone de Jongh, seems to have dumped him after all, and his former sweetheart Katja Schuurman has just released a statement. Because what does she actually think of Thijs’s behavior?
Katya writes down Instagram: “I hope people understand that speaking publicly about my daughter’s father’s behavior and choices is not in my daughter’s best interest. Not because I feel I am obliged to do so, but because I now feel the need to say something, but the following.”
Deep pain
It’s a private matter, says Katja. “Within the protective walls of our home, all the conversations necessary to keep her faith in love and honesty intact. As a mother, as a woman, and as a human being, I can’t help but feel deep pain over some of her father’s behavior and some of the choices.”
She is not going to banish Thijs from her and her daughter’s lives. “As the father of my daughter, I will never let him down. I will do everything in my power to (continue to) contribute to a relationship between father and daughter that is as normal and loving as possible.”
Sauna
Katja has not been very reserved in this process. Nena Kruizenga, one of Thijs’ victims, was approached by her in September, she said earlier. “She told me to take into account their daughter Sammie. Katja said, ‘She’s going to high school, but she can’t make friends because of everything that’s happened.’”
The most bizarre according to Nena? “She also invited me to her home. She wanted to chill with me in her sauna. Very strange.”
Bizarre lies
Katja couldn’t help but admit her contact with Nena – there was evidence of that – but she denied the invitation to the sauna, which Nena said she made during a FaceTime conversation. “That I would like to go into a sauna with you, was drunk and confused, and still have contact with you days afterwards, nothing is true of that.”
Nena, on the other hand, argues that this denial of Katja is a lie. It is not the first time that Nena has been called a liar. Thijs, sentenced to one month in prison, initially did the same.
