Ski jumper Katharina Schmid landed on the podium for the seventh time in the ninth competition of the season.
The world champion had to come second on the normal hill in Villach, only beaten by the Austrian Eva Pinkelnig. With 735 points, Schmid also extended her lead in the overall World Cup to the Slovenian Nika Prevc (669), who came third.
One day after her fourth win of the season, Schmid was only in seventh place after a first jump of 91.5 m before she made up ground with a flight of 90.0 m in difficult wind conditions. Selina Freitag rounded off another strong German result in fifth place and is third in the overall World Cup with 393 points.
While the men jumped in Bischofshofen at the Four Hills Tournament, the women started 100 kilometers away as the crow flies on the second smallest hill in the World Cup after their stops in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberstdorf. It remains to be seen whether there will finally be the first tour for women next season.
Agnes Reich (13th), Juliane Seyfarth (22nd) and Anna Hollandt (28th) also finished in the points on Monday. Schmid and Co. now have a comparatively long break waiting for them; things continue on January 18th in Sapporo, Japan.
