Katharina Hennig strong at the home game in Oberstdorf

Cross-country skier Katharina Hennig demonstrated her top form on the third stage of the Tour de Ski.

The 25-year-old stayed in the top group for over 10 km at her home game in Oberstdorf and ended up in sixth place.

As in the opening sprint in Lenzerheide, the victory went to defending champion Jessica Diggins (USA).

For Hennig it was the best result of her career in free technology. “I’m so happy about sixth place and just grateful. When it got down to the nitty-gritty, I noticed my technical weaknesses,” said Hennig on “ZDF”.

National coach Peter Schlickenrieder was also satisfied: “This is a great place for Katha. Her tactics worked perfectly.”

Hennig surprisingly finished third at the start of the season in freezing Finland at the end of November, albeit in the classic technique. This time she was only 2.7 seconds short of the podium.

There Diggins, also leading in the overall standings, was ahead of Frida Karlsson (Sweden / + 0.5 seconds) and Tatiana Sorina from Russia (+0.8) after 21: 30.8 minutes.

Antonia Fräbel achieved the second best German result in 20th place, Sofie Krehl also collected points in 27th.
