Zhangjiakou (dpa) – Germany’s best ski jumper Katharina Althaus started her Olympic Winter Games with a good performance.

In the first practice session in Zhangjiakou, the girl from Oberstdorf jumped to places three, five and five in three rounds and was satisfied afterwards. “It definitely feels good. I started training well and feel good,” said the 25-year-old. Althaus described the gigantic ski jump as follows: “It looks great. This whole stadium is super impressive. Even if you sit up there and see all the lights around it: It’s just amazing, really cool.”

The silver winner of the Pyeongchang Winter Games in 2018 is one of the top favorites for the gold medal in the singles on February 5 (11.45 a.m. / ARD and Eurosport). Althaus is second in the overall World Cup, the leading Marita Kramer from Austria cannot compete because of a corona infection. “I’m so sorry for her that she can’t jump here with us,” said Althaus. “I hope she gets her chance in four years.”
