If you are still looking for a slight summer reading, you could find what you are looking for in Alfons Kaiser’s latest project.

The fashion critic of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) has now released his 383 -page biography about Karl Lagerfeld as a graphic novel. The illustrator and comic author Simon Schwartz selected key moments from the book and thus traced Lagerfeld’s life from his birth from 1933 to death in 2019.

An interesting detail that the author Alfons Kaiser likes to point out: For the FAZ magazine, Simon Schwartz has been drawing the “Vita Obscura” series about forgotten historical personalities since 2019. On the same page, Karl Lagerfeld released his political caricatures every month until January 2019 – six years. They were already published in book form under the title “Karlikaten”.

Not only this overlap in the work of the illustrator and the influential fashion designer makes you curious. The stylized comic form stages the pointed sayings of Lagerfeld, coherently pointed and makes you want to refresh your own fashion knowledge by reading entertaining.

During the Berlin Fashion Week, Alfons Kaiser and Simon Schwartz will also present their work on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the FAZ atrium at Mittelstraße 2.
