Karim Layeb gives Usquert the win in Gieten

Usquert has won the fortieth edition of the Ponybar Christmas Indoor Football Tournament by force majeure. The absolute standout in the final against SETA, which was won 7-0, was the unstoppable Karim Layeb with his inimitable actions.

The players of Usquert, referred to by the speaker as ‘Je rupt’, flew into each other’s arms immediately after the final whistle on this very successful final evening in the De Goorns sports hall in Gieten, realizing that they owed the win in this unequal battle mainly to Layeb. thank you. Layeb remained modest after the many praises from his teammates. “I’m playing on the field with these boys for the first time this year. We also have a great time in the hall. I always enjoy playing a tournament like in Gieten in front of a full house.”

Leekster Eagles

Layeb (35), who works in daily life as a sales and account manager, was part of the strong Leekster Eagles indoor football team for more than ten years. After the dissolution of Leekster Eagles, Layeb joined the PKC ’83 indoor football team at first division level. There is a good chance that he will be promoted to the Premier League with PKC ’83. Layeb was also almost included in the Algerian indoor football selection last year, but unfortunately it did not happen due to the dissolution of Leekster Eagles. “The national coach has still been there, but due to the fuss from Leekster Eagles I have disappeared from the picture again.”

Completely hopeless

Usquert, who made his debut at this tournament, started poorly in the group, as they did not get further than a 2-2 draw against VAKO. After that, Layeb’s team was unstoppable. In the final, SETA found themselves trailing 5-0, partly thanks to three direct hits from the unstoppable Layeb. After that, Usquert partially gave up on the matter and SETA was happy that the score ultimately remained at 7-0. The seventh direct hit was truly of great beauty. Layeb fooled all his opponents and served the closing post Lorenzo Schokker, who had just come from his goal: 7-0. “There was no way to do it,” acknowledged SETA player Dylan de Wit. “We had football lessons. You could clearly see that they were all indoor football players. We have now finished second a few times in a row at this tournament. Last year we lost the final against Veelerveen. This year, however, we had no chance. So we’ve gotten used to second place,” De Wit laughed like a farmer with a toothache.

The final evening was mainly a social and sporting event. Due to the absence of local favorite Gieten, neighbor Eext could count on the most support from local supporters. However, in the battle for third and fourth place, they lost painfully 5-1 against Wildervank. VAKO finished in fifth place by triumphing 3-0 over SPW.

Easy evening

The referees had an easy evening. The leaders had little or no need to take action against a serious offense. Once a referee stopped a match. He rushed to the radio room with a request to send some playing children off the playing field. That worked initially, but the children returned a little later. The referee therefore went himself and successfully addressed the children.
