After their late goals, the BVB stars celebrate in front of the Stuttgart fan curve. Some fans then want to storm the field.

The goal celebrations by Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt triggered an extremely heated final phase of BVB’s 2-0 win against VfB Stuttgart, in which even the fans were on the verge of storming the pitch. As Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav explained afterwards, this was even foreseeable.

What had happened? After Adeyemi gave the visitors the lead with BVB’s first shot on goal in the 94th minute, the first pack formation between the teams occurred because the striker held his finger to his mouth in celebration of the goal. The 24-year-old admitted afterwards that it was revenge, as Undav would have celebrated a goal in the first leg in the same way. “Something like that stayed in my memory and then there was such a celebration today. It shouldn’t be anything personal. It should just be a reminder that I haven’t forgotten it,” said Adeyemi on Sport1.

And after Brandt’s goal just two minutes later, at least parts of the Swabians’ active fan scene, who supported their team from the Canstatter fan curve, were even more upset. Several supporters were already standing inside behind the advertising board and could only be held back with great difficulty by stewards. In addition, a folder belonging to a folder flew onto the field. However, because the teams were at a distance, no player was injured.

Deniz Undav then tried to explain the behavior of the VfB players and fans on the Sky microphone. A similar situation would have already occurred in the Europa League game against FC Porto. The VfB supporters then asked the players to more consistently prevent such actions by the opposing teams.

According to Undav, the fact that the fans stood inside after the second goal was “a miscommunication” because the fans probably thought that no VfB player would have intervened during the second celebration. But Stuttgart captain Atakan Karazor even received a yellow card for his behavior.
