Kangaroo escapes captivity with help of parrot | Abroad

The marsupial, named Baxter, has been walking around in the area for more than a day, and that caused a lot of confusion among local residents. Images of the bouncing animal were shared on social media.

Later it turned out that the animal had escaped from the enclosure with the help of a parrot named Thor. He had learned how to open doors. This is what his owners told the local station WBRZ TV.

The owners of Baxter and Thor run a nonprofit called Bird Recovery International, which specializes in returning exotic wild birds to their natural habitat. Baxter would share his enclosure with more than ten parrots.

As a result of the escape, the authorities discovered the kangaroo’s residence. Kangaroos are considered exotic animals under Louisiana law and should not be kept as pets. It’s unclear whether Baxter’s owners, who used to have a zoo, have an exception for the animal because of their animal-based nonprofit. But there’s a good chance they’ll have to relinquish Baxter now because of local law.
